REALTIME CONTROL

Rotorvane Anemometer

Realtime Control has developed an improved system for measuring wind speed and direction. The advantages of this anemometer system over older technologies are
Our design eliminates the traditional wind vane and associated encoder from the sensor system. The single Rotorvane sensor is of the general form of a conventional cup anemometer but the rotor is  made aerodynamically asymmetric so that its speed varies throughout each rotation in a manner which depends on wind direction. Wind direction is  determined from the variations in rotor speed. Wind speed is determined in the traditional way from mean rotor speed.
This technology is used in some Raymarine wind instruments, examples of which are shown here. Raymarine has an exclusive licence to use Rotorvane technology in products for the marine leisure industry.
Licences are available from Realtime Control for  other market sectors. For more information, including a certified report on tests conducted at the CSIRO, please contact REALTIME CONTROL.
