Configuring Alphalink on MacOS X  @

The following instructions will allow you to set up, or trouble-shoot where necessary, a dialup connection on MacOS X.

The first part of setting up or checking the configuration of your Alphalink connection is to set the dialup information. Follow these steps:

Click the Apple icon
Click System Preferences:

Click on the Network icon:

Select Configure: Using PPP
Note: You don not need to enter anything under Domain Name Servers or Search Domains
Click PPP:

Enter "Alphalink" for your Service Provider
Enter the Alphalink dialup number (check your information sheet or call 1300 137 425 if you are unsure)
Enter your Alphalink username (i.e. loginname@alphalink.com.au) and password
Tick Save Password (unless you want to have to type it each time)

Click PPP Options:

Configure the different Session Options as preferred (you will probably want "Connect automatically" ticked)
Tick "Send PPP echo packets" & "Use TCP header compression" in Advanced Options
Make sure that "Connect using a terminal window" is NOT ticked
Click OK

Click the Proxies tab:

Make sure that none of the boxes are ticked

Click Modem:

Set your settings as above - make sure that the correct modem is selected. iMac users will usually be using the Apple Internal modem shown

Click Apply Now or Save.

You should now be able to connect to Alphalink. If you'd like to setup your email, follow these steps:

Click the Apple icon
Click System Preferences
Click on the Internet icon

Leave this section blank

Click Email:

Set your email address to your Alphalink address: eg. loginname@alphalink.com.au
Set Incoming mail server to: pop.alphalink.com.au
Select POP for the Account Type
Set the User Account ID to your Alphalink email login name (usually the first part of your email address)
Enter your Password
Set Outgoing mail server to: mail.alphalink.com.au

Click Web:

Select your Web browser from the list (usually Internet Explorer)
Set your homepage to http://home.alphalink.com.au or whatever you prefer
You can set the search page and location to download files according to your preference (this is not required, so if you do not know what to put, just leave it)

Click News:

Select your news program from the list (usually Outlook Express)
Set News server to: news.alphalink.com.au
Select Connect As: Guest
Leave the other sections blank
Close the Internet window.

You're done! You might like to download the latest update for MacOS X from Apple's Download site here: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/, as the new updates fix a lot of problems present in the initial release of MacOS X.

If you have any problems, contact us on 1300 137 425 or email support@alphalink.com.au and they will be happy to help you out.
