Proxies are used transparently on all Alphalink dialups, so there
is no need to set them in your browser. To make sure that you
have your proxies turned off, follow the appropriate instructions
for your browser or operating system below:
- Internet Explorer 5 or 6: Go to the Tools Menu and
choose Internet Options. Click on the Connections tab, click
on the Alphalink icons under Dial-up settings, then click on
the Settings button. Make sure that none of the boxes are ticked.
- Internet Explorer 3 or 4: Go to the View menu and choose
Internet Options. Click on the Connection tab, then remove the
tick from Access the Internet using a proxy server.
- Netscape 4, 6 or 7, Mozilla: Go to the Edit menu and
choose Preferences. Double-click on Advanced, then click Proxies.
Select Direct Connection to Internet.
- Netscape 2 or 3: Go to the Options menu and choose
Network Preferences. Click on the Proxies tab and select No
Proxies.
- Opera 6: Go to the File menu and choose Preferences.
Click on Network, then on the Proxy servers button. Make sure
that none of the boxes are ticked.
- Opera 5: Go to the File menu and choose Preferences.

sure that none of the boxes are ticked.
- Firefox 1: Go to the Tools Menu and choose Options.

connection to the Internet" is selected. Click OK, Click OK again.
- MacOS 8.6 or 9: You might also need to to check the
setting in the Control Panels. Click on the Apple menu, then
on Control Panels, then on Internet. Click on the Edit menu,
then on User modes. Put a dot next to Advanced, then click OK.
Click on the Advanced tab, then click on Firewalls down the
left hand side. Remove the tick from every box, then close the
Internet Window. It should prompt you to save the settings,
click Save.
- MacOS X: You might also need to to check the setting
in System Preferences. Click on the Apple menu, then on System
Preferences. Double-click on Network. Click on the Proxies tab.
Make sure that none of the boxes are ticked, then click Apply
Now or Save. Also note that some programs include their own proxy settings that override the proxy settings in System Preferences, so you may need to check those seperately.
