  Uploading Your Home Page  @

PLEASE NOTE: Your webpage address will be http://home.alphalink.com.au/~yourloginname

These instructions show how to upload the home page you have written to your webspace on Alphalink using FileZilla. You are free to use whichever FTP program you like, however, if you have never uploaded a web page before, we recommend using FileZilla as it is very easy to use.

Before you Start

You need to make sure your webspace has been enabled by us before you can upload your page. If you are sure it has been, then go ahead. If it has not been, or you are not sure, email Administration at admin@alphalink.com.au.

Please note that these instructions apply to all members on Budget, Standard and Off-Peak accounts. They also apply to any Business account members who are NOT on the IIS server. Most Business account sites are on the IIS server, but if you are not sure, email Administration at admin@alphalink.com.au and they can check for you. If you are on the IIS server, click here for instructions.

Setting up FileZilla

After downloading and installing FileZilla from here , you will need to set up the program as shown in the following two images.

Configuring FileZilla: First click on the Sitemanager icon as displayed in the image above, Alternatively you can click on File then Site Manager...

On the Site Manager tab: First of all click on the button labeled "New Site", Once this is created to the right you should see the same window as above. Fill in the fields the same as listed above, the only thing that should not resemble the above screen is the username and password section, those being your own Alphalink username and password.

Once you have connected properly you should be able to upload files by double clicking the file on the "local" side of the screen to transfer them to the remote side. If you are overwriting a file currently on the remote or local side you will be prompted to overwrite it, select "Overwrite" then click OK to replace the current file on the remote side.

You can also make remote directories and upload to them as well. This allows you to have subpages within your homepage. For example, if you wanted http://home.alphalink.com.au/~yourname/cars/ you should upload to /cars/ for it to show.

Once properly uploaded you can view your homepage on the internet by typing http://home.alphalink.com.au/~yourusername into your internet browser (replace yourusername with your Alphalink username).

Common Questions

  • I uploaded my page, but I can not see it!
Make sure that the first page of your site is named index.htm or index.html in lowercase. If they are not, the server does not know which page is the first page. It is also case sensitive, so it must be in lowercase letters. To get the latest version of your Web page press the Ctrl and F5 keys at the same time to do a forced refresh.
  • I do not like FileZilla, I want to use something else, what do I do?
You can use whatever program you like to upload your page. Just use ftp.alphalink.com.au as the server name, log in with your username and password and upload your files.
