  Uploading Your Web Site  @

These instructions show how to upload the web site you have written to your webspace on Alphalink using FileZilla. You are free to use whichever FTP program you like, however if you have never uploaded a web page before, we recommend using FileZilla as it is very easy to use.

Before you Start

Please note that these instructions only apply to people with Business Accounts on the IIS server. Most Business account sites are on the IIS server, but if you are not sure, email Administration at admin@alphalink.com.au and they can check for you. If you are not on the IIS server, or you do not have a Business account, click here for instructions.

Setting up FileZilla

After downloading and installing FileZilla from here (you need to be online to do this), you will need to set up the program as shown in the following two images.

Configuring FileZilla: First click on the Sitemanager icon as displayed in the image above, Alternatively you can click on File then Site Manager...

On the Site Manager tab: First of all click on the button labeled "New Site", Once this is created to the right you should see the same window as above. Fill in the fields the same as listed above, the only thing that should not resemble the above screen is the username and password section, those being your own alphalink username and password.

Once you have connected properly you should be able to upload files by double clicking the file on the "local" side of the screen to transfer them to the remote side. I suggest you delete all the original files in the main directory when you first get it before you start uploading, by selecting the files in the "remote" side and pressing the delete button then click ing yes to the dialong confirmation box.(The original file just says "this user has not yet created a homepage"). If you are overwriting a file currently on the remote or local side you will be prompted to overwrite it, select "Overwrite" then click ok to replace the current file on the remote side.

You can also make remote directories and upload to them as well. This allows you to have subpages within your homepage. For example, if you wanted http://www.yourdomain.com/cars/ you should make a directory called cars and upload files into it.

Once properly uploaded to your web directory you can view your homepage on the internet by typing your full domain address into your internet browser.

Common Questions

  • I uploaded my page, but I can not see it!
Make sure that the first page of your site is named Default.html or Default.asp. If they are not, the server does not know which page is the first page.
  • I do not like FileZilla, I want to use something else, what do I do?
You can use whatever program you like to upload your page. Just use the address of your full domain web site as the server name, login with your username and password and just upload your files.
