"S" denotes Sprint score, "U" the Ultra score, and "M",
the Marathon line total. Note that the last man standing wins the Marathon if the
game ends before the time limit expires or the line clearance target is reached. In
this scenario, the winner may not necessarily have cleared the most lines.
+ Denotes non-B-Boy
Tetris, the most addictive puzzle game ever. And now, here comes the official Tetris World Championships. It is designed around the best version of Tetris ever - the N64's The New Tetris - and its three contest modes of Marathon, Sprint and Ultra, and highly acclaimed Gold and Silver cube feature. To win the championship, expertise must be shown not only in the traditional game of racking up lines and surviving as long as possible, but to also master the ability to not only create these Gold and Silver cubes, but to do them quickly and with innovation in order to win.
1) Only B-Boys (as listed in the B-Boy Realm) are eligible to win the championship.
However, non-B-Boys may compete and have their results recorded, at the discretion of the
previous champion. If a non-B-Boy ends up leading the points standings at the completion
of competition, the highest placed B-Boy is declared champion.
2) Three Contest Series: Sprint (most lines in 3 minutes), Ultra (first to reach 150
lines) & Marathon (last man standing). Whoever wins the most contests,
wins. In the event of a tie, a countback on game wins in the Sprint and Ultra
contests formats is used. Still tied, most lines of the still-tied players in the
Marathon wins overall. Minor placings are decided the same way too.
3) Both Sprint and Ultra sections are decided by the first competitor to win five games.
The Marathon is won by the last surviving competitor. However, there is a 30 minute
time limit and a 1000 line line limit. Once either of those two milestones are
breached, the game ends, and the person with the most lines, wins. The current champion is
charged with monitoring both limits.
4) The current champion must be involved for any championship match to be legitimate. The
Championship is designed to for the N64 "The New Tetris" game, which has all
contests built in and must be used. However, "Garbage" mode must be
deactivated. Since there is no time displayed during the Marathon, competitors must
display a clock or suitable time-piece that notifies competitors of time elapsed.
Ideally, the game ends when a an alarm goes off. However, if no such alarm is
available, any of the competitors may call an end to the game once it is realised the 30
minutes has expired.
5) The New Tetris allows for between 1 to 3 challenges, so single and multiple challenges
are allowed. However, if there are more than 3 challengers awaiting, they must
compete amongst themselves in which ever way they choose to decide which final three
competitors go forward to face the defending champion.
6) The Champion must accept any challenge at any time provided it is not within 12 hours
of the last successful defence and that the challenger has made sure original N64
hardware, suitable controllers and a copy of the game is available. Failure to
defend results in the championship becoming vacant with the most recent highest placed
challenger gaining champion's rights.
7) In the event of a forfeit where a competitor has failed to appear for a pre-arranged
match in a one-on-one situation, a 0-3 loss is awarded against him with the Championship
allowed to change hands. In a multiple challenge, the championship still goes ahead
regardless, with the Championship again allowed to change hands.
8) Current champion gets choice of screen-quarter, controllers, and last but not least,
choice of music.
