Language

Contrary to popular knowledge - Prussian is not the same as German. Prussians were originally a West Baltic tribe, of similar culture and language to that of Lithuanians or Latvians. Old Prussian is also considered to be a close relative of the Proto-Slavic language, though in many ways similar to Sanskrit, Gothic, and Ancient Greek. The Prussians were conquered by German crusaders in the 13th century. The Prussians were subjected to ethnocide and their descendants diffused into German, Polish and Lithuanian cultures, bringing with them, something unique. They preserved aspects of their own culture, and became what is known as a dispersed ethnic minority. These "New Prussians" look for their identity in the culture they are now a part of, as well as with their past. Few things can be researched about this old culture. One of them is the Prussian language - long thought to be extinct, is now being reconstructed.

Here are attempts at reconstructing the Prussian language.

PRUSSIAN RECONSTRUCTIONS
Attempt by Mikkels Klussis, a Prussian
A linguistic study, and a dictionary of Old Prussian.

SOUDOVIAN VIRDAINAS
Attempt by Soudovian Jozeps Pashka-Soudavniks
A reconstruction, in many ways archaicized and modernized at the same time.
